Kayaking

Koh Hong rewards those who slow down. While speedboats cover the highlights quickly, a kayak lets you go where they can't, into sea caves, around limestone arches and right up to the cliff walls.

Kayaking at Koh Hong Krabi

Two people kayaking in clear turquoise water near the Hong Islands

Kayaking is available on the longtail day trip and the private tour. You'll be given a two-person kayak and a paddling briefing before you go. The route typically involves paddling along the inner coastline of Koh Hong, through a short sea cave and into the lagoon entrance.

The key advantage of kayaking into the lagoon versus swimming is that you stay drier and have more control in the narrow entry channel. It's the preferred method for most guests, especially families.

No kayaking experience is needed. The water is calm inside the protected bay and your guide will be alongside you throughout.

Questions People Ask

Which tours include kayaking?
Kayaking is included on the longtail day trip and the private tour. On the speedboat tour, kayaking into the lagoon is an add-on for ฿400 per person. All tours include swimming as the default option for entering the lagoon.
Do I need any kayaking experience?
None at all. The water inside the protected bay is calm and the paddle route is straightforward. You'll get a short briefing before you go. The kayaks are two-person, so if you're less confident you'll have your partner helping. Your guide stays alongside the whole time.
Is kayaking into the lagoon better than swimming?
They're different rather than one being better. The kayak gives you more control through the narrow gap and keeps you higher out of the water. Many guests, especially families with children, prefer it. Plenty of people do one direction by kayak and swim back. Your guide will explain both on the day.
Are the kayaks stable? I've never been in one before.
Yes. The kayaks are wide sit-on-top models, which are much harder to tip than a narrow sea kayak. Most first-timers find them easy within a few minutes. If you do end up in the water, that's fine, you're already in swimwear and the water is warm.
Can young children kayak?
Children old enough to sit still and hold a paddle can join in a two-person kayak with a parent. For smaller children, the parent paddles and the child sits in front. The route is calm and distances are short. We've had guests as young as four years old without any issues.
