Hong Island Krabi

Private Hong Island Sunset Tour by Longtail Boat

4.8 (24 reviews)✓ Free cancellation🏨 Hotel pickup💳 Pay on tour

Description

This is the private version of our Hong Island sunset tour. You get the same afternoon-and-evening experience (Hong Islands, sunset, optional plankton swim) but the boat is yours for the day, the schedule moves at your pace, and there are no other guests on board. For couples who want a more romantic version, families who want the kids to themselves, or small groups who don't want to share the boat, this is the best way to do the sunset trip.

Practical Details

This is a shorter, more focused tour than the full-day private (5 hours total versus 6) and the schedule is built around the sunset and the moon phase. Bring a light jacket or hoodie for the boat ride back: the wind picks up after sunset and the open longtail can feel cold, especially on the water. A small towel and a dry bag for your phone or camera are also useful.

The private setup means you can tell the captain to skip stops, stay longer at a favourite beach, or change the order of the day. Most groups spend the bulk of the time at Hong Island and Hong Lagoon. Maximum capacity is 28 persons per boat. Pregnant guests are not permitted on the longtail boat. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour starts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why book this instead of the joined sunset tour?
Three reasons. First, the boat is yours: no other guests, no waiting, no shared beaches. Second, you can adjust the schedule on the day: stay longer at a favourite spot, skip a stop you don't care about, or just sit on the beach for sunset. Third, it's much more romantic for couples and much calmer for families with young children.
Is the BBQ dinner worth adding?
Most groups say yes. It's 200 THB per person, served on the beach at sunset, and saves you the hassle of bringing your own food. The menu is a simple Thai grill: meat or seafood, rice, salad, fruit. Vegetarian and halal available on request. If you don't add it, you can bring your own snacks or just have the fresh fruit and water that's already on the boat.
When are the glowing plankton at their best?
Warm months (April to October) and new moon nights, when the sky is fully dark. The glow is much weaker November to March and on bright moon nights. We schedule the tour around new moon windows when we can. Even when the plankton are faint, the sunset and the islands themselves make the trip worth doing.
Is it suitable for kids?
Yes for ages 4 and up. The day is shorter than the full-day private (5 hours instead of 6), the boat ride is split into short legs, and the plankton swim is the kind of memory that sticks. Younger kids (1 to 3) are welcome but the late finish (around 20:00) might be past their bedtime.
Can we add Railay pickup?
Yes, for 500 THB per round trip. Pickup is from the Railay floating pier on the east side. Drop-off goes back to the same pier at the end of the night.
How does the deposit work?
Private tours require a deposit to confirm the booking. We send a secure payment link by email after you submit the booking form. The remaining balance is paid in cash on the day. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, with the deposit refunded or transferred to a future date.
Why is the longtail not allowed for pregnant guests?
The longtail boat is a wooden hull that sits low in the water. It can get bumpy, especially on the way back after sunset when the wind picks up. We don't accept the risk for pregnant guests. If you'd prefer a more stable boat, look at our private speedboat tour instead.

Mooie avond, goed verzorgd. Alleen het was iets kouder op de boot terug dan verwacht, neem een trui mee.

Qué experiencia. El capitán era encantador y la cena en la playa al atardecer fue inolvidable. El plancton fue la cereza del pastel.

Good tour, not cheap but worth it for a special occasion. The sunset was the highlight.

Booked this for our honeymoon and it was perfect. Private boat, quiet islands, sunset, BBQ on the sand, and then the plankton. Incredible night.
