Private Hong Island Tour by Longtail Boat

Description
Your own longtail boat, your own captain, and a day at the Hong Islands built around what your group actually wants to do. The boat is private from the moment it leaves Nopparat Thara: no other guests, no fixed running order, and no waiting for a group of strangers to come back from the viewpoint.

A day that runs at your pace rather than a schedule. The single most common thing private groups do with that freedom is stay at the lagoon far longer than a joined tour allows.
A longtail is an open wooden boat with a canvas roof. It is characterful and it is not a luxury vessel: expect sun, wind and some spray, and pack a dry bag for phones and cameras.
Because lunch is not included by default, decide before the day whether you are adding lunch boxes, eating on Hong Island or bringing your own. It is the one thing groups most often forget to arrange.
FAQs
For the whole boat. A boat for 1 to 5 people is 5,290 baht, 6 to 8 people 6,290 baht, 9 to 15 people 7,790 baht, 16 to 20 people 9,790 baht and 21 to 28 people 13,790 baht. The price does not change with how many of you there are inside a band, so a couple and a group of five pay the same. The national park fee is separate and paid per person at the islands, in cash.
The boat, the captain and the day are yours. You set the departure time, you decide how long to stay at each stop, and you can skip one entirely or ask to sit longer at the lagoon. On a joined tour the running order is fixed by the group. That flexibility is what most private bookings are really buying, ahead of any question of comfort.
No. The Than Bok Khorani National Park entry fee is paid at the islands and is not part of the tour price. It is 300 baht per adult and 150 baht per child aged 4 to 11, in cash. Bring it with you: there is no card machine at the park and no ATM on the islands.
No. You book online and pay on the day of the tour, so nothing is charged when you reserve your seats. Bring cash for the tour price and for the national park fee if it is not already included.
Not in the boat price. You can add a lunch box at 100 baht per person when you book (fried rice with chicken, basil chicken with fried egg, or stir-fried chicken with chilli), eat at the restaurant on Hong Island, or bring your own food. Drinking water is on the boat either way.
The boat crew speak enough English for the day to run smoothly, and a dedicated English-speaking guide is an optional extra at 1,200 baht for the whole boat. Most groups do not add one. If you want the history of the islands and the marine park explained properly as you go, it is worth it.
Yes, within the day and the weather. Tell the captain at the pier what matters most to you, whether that is a long stop at the lagoon, more snorkeling time or being back early, and the day is built around it. The tide still decides when the lagoon is easiest to enter, so the captain will suggest the best order.
Pickup is from your hotel and it is included from Ao Nang at no charge, with Railay and Centara Grand at a 500 baht surcharge and Klong Muang, Tub Kaek, Krabi Town and Ao Nam Mao at 1,200 baht. Give us your hotel name and room number when you book and we send the exact time the day before. If you are staying outside those areas, message us before booking and we will tell you whether we can reach you.
Nearly always, because we plan the day around the tide rather than the clock. The entrance is a narrow gap in the cliff, and it works best at mid-tide, roughly two to three hours either side of high water. At the top of the tide the gap gets too low to pass safely, and at the bottom there is exposed rock in the way. Your captain knows the tide times for your date and builds the running order around them, which is why the order of the stops changes from day to day. There is a live tide chart on our tides guide if you want to check your date before booking.
No. Life vests are provided and worn in the water at every stop, and the guide stays with the group. The beaches at Pakbia and Hong Island shelve gently, so non-swimmers and small children can stand in the shallows.
The tour runs in light rain, which is common and passes quickly. The decision that matters is the sea state, not the sky: if the port authority closes the pier or the captain judges the crossing unsafe, we contact you to move the tour to another date or refund you in full. We never send a boat out in conditions we would not take our own families out in.
Swimwear worn under your clothes, a towel, a hat, sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen, and cash for the park fee and anything you buy on the day. Mask, snorkel and life vest are provided. A dry bag is worth having: longtail boats take spray, and phones and cameras are the things people lose.
Yes. Cancelling or moving your booking to another date is free up to 24 hours before the tour starts, and anything you have paid is refunded in full. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the start time are non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded. If we have to cancel, for example for weather or safety, you can move to another date or take a full refund.
To keep the ride safe, this tour is not suitable for pregnant women. If that could apply to anyone in your group, contact us before booking and we will help you find a better fit.

Absolutely brilliant day on the water. Captain Niran knew exactly when to head to the lagoon to catch it at low tide and we basically had the place to ourselves for 20 minutes. The snorkeling at Pakbia was full of fish and the climb up Hong Island for the viewpoint was tough but so worth it. One of the best days of our trip.

It was alright. Beautiful place but the day felt a bit chaotic when other boats arrived. Captain did his best.

Très belle journée. Few small things could be better, like the snorkel masks were old, but overall a beautiful day.

Pretty good day. Captain was a bit quiet but friendly. The boat was fine and the islands were stunning. Bring water shoes and sunscreen.

Splurge for the private boat, do it. Worth every baht.
